“When the
people fear their government, there is tyranny;
when the government fears the people, there is liberty.”
—Thomas Jefferson
“In this
present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem,
government is the problem.”
—Ronald Reagan
About Us
We’re
more than just tea…
When we say "About Us,"
it goes beyond just a small group of motivated folks endeavoring
to stand up for what’s right; it’s about all Americans who love
what this country has traditionally stood for and what it is
supposed to stand for. It’s about making a statement that the
structure of this country was resolved long ago in a pair of
brilliant documents: The Declaration of Independence and
The United States Constitution. If anyone has any doubt
as to the intent and purpose of these documents they can absolve
them quickly by reading any one of numerous insightful writings
penned by our founding fathers. Those writings reveal
unambiguously what their mindset was in those days. They simply
wanted to preserve liberty and the opportunity to pursue
happiness for all of our countrymen. They thought the best way
to achieve this was to limit the powers of government. And that
is what they did!
We reject the following policies:
-
Out of control spending
…It’s OUR money!
-
Record deficits and debt
accumulation
-
The pursuit of socialism
-
Funding special interest
groups
-
Bailing out banks,
businesses, and marginal homeowners
-
Government expansion into
private sector ownership
-
Universal
healthcare—socialized medicine
-
Carbon tax and other
environmental extremist's schemes
-
Encumbering private property
with extreme environmental laws
-
Promoting back door
legislation that violates the first amendment
-
Advocating social security
payments and amnesty for illegal aliens
-
Preventing U.S. companies from drilling where oil exists on
our own soil
And many,
many more!!!
The Spender in Chief
President Obama’s campaign revolved primarily
around the following inane platitudes: “the audacity of hope,”
“yes we can,” “change,” and just plain ol' “hope.” As he said
himself, dismissively, “just words.” With cover from the
mainstream media he did not have to define these words or his
socialist agenda, he did not have to point out that a bad
economy plays into his goals to expand the government beyond
comprehension, nor did he have to answer the concern of informed
citizens who wanted to know how his administration would
reconcile his extremely liberal Senate voting record and
demonstrated love of socialism with the just constraints of
limited government that the U.S. Constitution places upon the
holder of the office he was seeking. For him, becoming the
President of the United States was about power, not about love
of country. If he were indeed honest during his campaign, he
would have told the voters that he believes in the "audacity" of
big government and that he "hopes" he will be able to leave you
with nothing but spare "change" and a permanent reliance on the
federal government for your needs. So far he is succeeding in
that.
He has proposed more
spending in his first year in office than all 8 years of the
Bush administration. Don’t forget, the Bush administration
wasn’t exactly known for its fiscal restraint. In talking about
the failing U.S. economy, Obama’s Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel
said in November 2008, “Never let a good crisis go to waste.”
Obama is spending our nation into oblivion to grow government
under the guise of addressing a crisis. An
excellent article in the Wall Street Journal demonstrates
just how much debt he is proposing.
Congress and Our Present Crisis
Federal government intervention, legislation,
and incompetence almost exclusively caused the financial turmoil
in which we find ourselves. Yet those directly responsible for
creating the policies that led to the meltdown have the nerve to
try and shift blame to the private sector. With the aid of the
lapdog media, they are quick to tout the so-called failure of
capitalism and the "greed" of Wall Street as causes. Funny that
you’ll never hear them speak of the greed of government. If you
haven’t seen the video that explains the failure please take the
time to
watch it here.
After seeing this,
you’ll probably ask why the leaders in Congress (Barney Frank
and Chris Dodd) who protected Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac aren’t
being investigated. Excellent question! In fact, the irony is
that, with cover being provided by mainstream media, they are
being allowed to take more control over the mess they created
and covered up all along. Thus, the real outrage here at
The Potomac Tea Party and across the nation is that they
are taking our tax dollars to prop those institutions back up
again and to bail out the high risk borrowers who should never
have qualified for home ownership in the first place. All the
while, we paid our mortgages and lived within our means. I guess
the "fairness" of socialism demands that the government step in
to punish the hard working and responsible members of our
society and reward the idle or the squanderers.
Our Resolve
We at The Potomac Tea Party are just
getting started. We hope to stand shoulder to shoulder with you
and other patriotic Americans and peacefully resist our own
federal government at every turn whenever they attempt to steal
our liberty to satiate their lust for power. One of the best
ways you can let your voice be heard is to write elected
officials and let your opinions be weighed. It’s funny how
little things like your voice and your vote can have a huge
impact on the decisions they make. There are many ideas that we
have on how to fight "change," so check back often and tell all
of your friends, neighbors, and family members about us. The
maintenance of liberty is tedious. It requires eternal
vigilance!
God Bless America!!!
“We are at
war with the most dangerous enemy that has ever faced mankind in
his long climb from the swamp to the stars, and it has been said
if we lose that war, and in doing so lose this way of freedom of
ours, history will record with the greatest astonishment that
those who had the most to lose did the least to prevent its
happening. Well, I think it's time we ask ourselves if we still
know the freedoms that were intended for us by the Founding
Fathers.”
