Why A Tea Party? On December 16, 1773, a relatively small number of men, the Sons of Liberty, boarded British ships in Boston Harbor. In just a few hours they managed to dump over 90,000 pounds of tea into those waters during a bold act of defiance. They were opposing the oppressive policies of an unresponsive government. Their actions ultimately led to our Declaration of Independence and the birth of a glorious and free nation. When we stop to think of how many more Americans there are living today, who are all beneficiaries of those actions, it begs the question, can we not even muster enough resolve and outrage, given our present circumstances, to send the politicians in Washington the message that we still agree with what those men did? And can we not exceed that quantity tenfold? If we are not up to such a small task to show that we will not tolerate a government which is happy to tax its citizens but neglects to represent them—one that punishes them by passing onerous laws and treats them with contempt—then how can we claim any fellowship with those men who risked their lives and fought for independence, men not willing to tolerate the abuses of tyranny?
~Join the Largest On-Going Tea Party The Federal Government of the United States is becoming unresponsive with regard to its sovereign citizens. Elected representatives are vastly overstepping their delegated powers and racing full speed down the path of authoritarian socialism while trying to push individual liberty and the just constraints of the U.S. Constitution into the faint recesses of our rear view mirrors. The very nature and spirit of America is historically steeped in the fervent opposition of tyranny. While we may at times let our vigilance wane because we want to enjoy the fruits of our long established freedoms and our labors, and because we have naively come to assume that those we elect will act in our country’s best interest and strive to preserve the liberty that our ancestors fought so fiercely to establish and pass on, we will not long tolerate taxation without representation nor measures aimed at altering and destroying the very fabric of our safeguards. The folks here at The Potomac Tea Party are simply patriots committed to reminding those in our far distant capitol that we and our fellow Americans are quite familiar with our heritage and our God-given and inalienable rights. We will not sell them at any cost and we will not be tolerant of those who would beguile us from our liberty and hard earned property through empty rhetoric by way of onerous and seditious legislation cloaked in language of "fairness." The willful destruction of our economy and our way of life must stop. Enough is enough! In the spirit of the Sons of Liberty and the Boston Tea Party, send the politicians in Washington a bag of tea or two and remind them who’s in charge!!! We the People!!! TAKE ACTION!!!
