Virginia Mandates Soviet-Style Revisionist History in Public Schools

Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger is expected to sign a measure that mandates what teachers in the state’s public schools must teach about what happened at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.
The law demands teachers only characterize the event as an “insurrection,” not a protest. They must define January 6th as “an unprecedented violent attack on U. S. democratic institutions, infrastructure, and representatives for the purpose of overturning the results of the 2020 presidential election.”
Virginia teachers may not, by this law, mention why people were protesting that day, which was potential election fraud. They will effectively be prohibited from mentioning “peaceful protests” or any sort of “irregularities” regarding the 2020 election.
However, “’Insurrection’ and ‘sedition’ are legal terms,” legal scholar, Jonathan Turley, says. “They have a meaning. The FBI investigated thousands after January 6th and charged hundreds. Not one was charged with insurrection or conspiracy to overthrow the country.”
If the protesters were so dangerous, why was the order given to open the doors of the Capitol building to let them in?

Why did Nancy Pelosi turn down the extra National Guard support, and admit that she was responsible while being recorded by her daughter?
We know that FBI agents were part of the crowd and identities need to be protected. But, why has the FBI not released a redacted report by every agent of exactly what their role was on that day? Were they there for crowd control or to instigate a Reichstag fire? Students in Virginia will never ponder these questions.
BLM and Antifa had been consistently showing up and violently protesting at any event they could around that time. How is it that none showed up that day? Or were there any in disguise as agents provocateur? The FBI should have records of their known members, especially the ones with a history of operating in DC.
Almost 1,600 people faced federal charges, and approximately 1,100 received sentences. Some suffered Orwellian treatment, with the Feds monitoring their computer use. Joe Biden’s DOJ arrested grandmothers and journalists, here and here, who did nothing but stand in or around the Capitol, peacefully observing. Due process was either denied or delayed, but teachers are not allowed to present the facts that contradict the terms in the law.
When government re-writes history, bans legitimate discussion and debate of the facts, and mandates propaganda be taught to students, it undermines the true nature of academic freedom. This will likely accelerate the exodus of families from public education.
