Public Pressure Produces Second Victory Over the Woke

Public Pressure Produces Second Victory Over the Woke
Last November, we discovered and publicized the fact that the National Archives had removed its ‘trigger warnings’ from the U.S. Constitution and Declaration of Independence, due to public pressure. This month, the Biden administration reversed itself and canceled a proposal to remove William Penn’s statue from Welcome Park in Philadelphia. This decision was also due to public pressure.
One of our Guardians submitted a comment to the National Park Service rulemaking:
As American citizens who are concerned about preserving our history, we are demanding that you stop the demolition of the statue and model house honoring William Penn at Welcome Park in Philadelphia. This is the only site in historic Philadelphia dedicated to celebrating the life and contributions of William Penn.
William Penn founded the province of Pennsylvania as a place of refuge for Quakers to enjoy religious freedom. Quakers, by the way, were pacifists who wanted to avoid war and conflict at all cost. Ironically, you wish to replace the small Penn memorial with your interpretation of the history of the indigenous nations of Philadelphia, those with whom Penn wanted to avoid conflict.
Add your monuments, statues or memorials, but stop tearing down those that have existed for many years. How else will future generations learn from what has come before them?
Moral of the Story: Public pressure works. Keep it up.
Telling True History
1) Land of Hope: An Invitation to the Great American Story, By Wilfred McClay, published in 2019, is a unique American History book. Dr. McClay tells the great American story instead of bogging the reader down with dry facts and dates. McClay understands that it is easier to remember a well-told story than memorize and ingest meaningless information . . . “The impulse to write history and organize our world around stories is intrinsic to us as human beings. We are, at our core, remembering and story-making creatures, and stories are one of the chief ways we find meaning in the flow of events.” Land of Hope presents an accurate narrative account of our past in full context and reminds us of how remarkable the achievements were of those who came before us, how much we are indebted to them, and what it means to be uniquely American.
2) The ‘Monumental’ documentary, with Kirk Cameron, brings us two very important stories in American History. First, it tells how the Pilgrims triumphed over adversity to reach America. Spoiler Alert - it wasn’t easy, people died. Second, it describes a monument in Massachusetts - The Matrix of Liberty - which is the Pilgrims’ blueprint for how to create and keep a free society.
More from Manistee Tea Party -
Monumental is the story of America’s beginnings. Presented, produced, and starring Kirk Cameron, the 90-minute true story follows this father of six across Europe and the U.S. as he seeks to discover America’s true “national treasure” – the people, places, and principles that made America the freest, most prosperous and generous nation the world has ever known. It can be rented at Amazon Prime, as well as purchased. https://monumentalmovie.com/pages/movie-trailer
Or watch it for free (at least for awhile) here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bv6bCP3scW4
Here is a 15 minute excerpt from the documentary about the little known Monument - The Matrix of Liberty: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwrXHUsNC6E Located at 72 Allerton Street in Plymouth, Massachusetts, the 81-foot-tall (25 m) monument was commissioned by the Pilgrim Society. The original concept dates to around 1820, with actual planning beginning in 1850 and was dedicated on August 1, 1889. https://matrixofliberty.com/
Montpelier: Throwing the Baby Out with the Bathwater
Montpelier is the home of James Madison, the Father of the Constitution. Unfortunately:
James Madison’s legacy at Montpelier has been effectively erased, as there are no exhibits dedicated to his significant contributions. Montpelier can now be counted among the ranks of projects and actors that promote a distorted view of American history, suffused with critical race theory. There is a great deal of overlap between the curriculum developed by the Southern Poverty Law Center, a political interest group that is widely regarded as extremist and that maligns reputable organizations it disagrees with as “hate groups,” and the exhibits at Montpelier. Montpelier has solicited SPLC associates’ involvement on multiple occasions, and the results are dispiriting and insidious.
This is from a Heritage Foundation report, excerpted here. The report goes on to say Montpelier’s myopic focus on the fact Madison owned slaves and the agitprop line the Constitution is racist is to throw the baby out with the bathwater. The public would be better served if Montpelier and other historic sites focused on the American Idea and the magnificence of the Founders’ ideals. Our stories on Montpelier - collected here - drive home the same point.
Enslaved by Slavery
American slavery, while tragic, was not unique.
Muslim slave traders transported thousands of sub-Saharan Africans across the desert to be sold to slave owners in the Muslim world. The trade picked up when sub-Saharan kingdoms converted to Islam. The trade rivalled the Atlantic slave trade in duration and numbers. Unlike the American Idea, Islamic law explicitly permits enslavement (of non-Muslims). In sharp contrast, the American Founders refused to write the principle humans could be property into the U.S. Constitution.
There were also large numbers of Irish slaves in the U.S. Slavery continues to this day in China, North Korea, and elsewhere.
Now for some tough love: American blacks fixated on slavery (‘400 years!’) should get a little perspective and realize what happened to their ancestors was not unique in human experience. They should also focus on making present-day life better for themselves and others, instead of dwelling on the past. They would be much happier if they did. Throw off the shackles of your Woke overseers who want to keep you in bondage to their moth-eaten narrative, and to an era gone by, and get on with life. More here.

- By the way, if you think the 1619 Project tells true history, think again. It’s been completely debunked.
