How the Statue of Liberty Got Built

It wouldn’t have happened without schoolkids from all over France and America raising funds. In France, money was raised at puppet shows and carnivals to pay for the statue. In America, 120,000 donations averaging under a dollar paid for the pedestal. Hungarian immigrant Joseph Pulitzer published letters from donors, including one from another immigrant who wrote he’d had his fill of monarchy and was grateful for the blessings of the American Republic.
