The Trump Moment Has Arrived

Traveling and speaking, as I used to do back when the United States still had freedom of assembly, I was confronted almost everywhere with the same question: would Trump be reelected?
My answer always conveyed my broad optimism, but with a caveat: It’s going to be close! This is because our country is so evenly divided. Half the country despises Trump, as much as the other half loves him. And the division seems largely immune to the normal political variables. Two weeks ago National Review coined the phrase "teflon election," to describe the current situation where, at the height of the economic boom (in February) Trump's popularity barely went up. And, in the pits of the government induced recession that followed, it’s barely gone down.
Everyone seems to have already made up his mind. And the election looked like a nail-biter, regardless. Until now.
President Trump is now faced with his first and, almost certainly, his only chance to turn his reelection into a 60-40, Ronald Reagan style rout.
This is because the leftists are overplaying their hand and falling for their own propaganda (two things that they are predisposed to do.) And are handing Trump the first issue of his presidency that isn't a 50-50 proposition.
Now, the left is just brimming over with bad ideas. The problem is that some of them are popular (at least in concept). I would have no trouble explaining, to anyone willing to listen, why the "green new deal" and "universal basic income" are two of the worst ideas in the history of bad ideas. But not a lot of people are willing to listen.
And, to the 'skulls full of mush,' graduating from an educational system that we inexplicably turned over to the communists a generation or two back, paying people not to work, with freshly printed money, sounds brilliant as all heck.
But there's one leftist idea that isn't so popular and the consequences come around a lot faster than economic catastrophe, even when the latter is already baked into the cake. And that is their cockamamie view of law enforcement. Frequently that entails letting all the criminals back onto the streets over whatever excuse comes along. (The Corona Virus will do.) It's also patently racist.
To the left, white people are the only group in the world wherein everyone's responsible for what any other white person does. They're also, uniquely, responsible for stuff their ancestors did. And they're responsible for people who were NOT actually their ancestors but looked like their ancestors.
Non whites, on the other hand are not responsible for anything. Even things they do with their own hands. Because, apparently, whites are responsible for that too.
Just in the last few days, I've learned from CNN that "all white people have a virus in their brain." And that it's a tragedy when rioters accidentally burn down a black owned business. Presumably they should be more careful to only burn down white owned businesses. (Although I think it's supposed to be ok to burn down Asian owned businesses too.)
This is not a 50-50 issue. Nothing creates conservatives faster than watching your city get burned to the ground by lawless thugs while the police stand down because the mayor's on the side of the rioters.
Law and order is not only a winning issue, it's a landslide issue. I'm a small government guy, if there ever was one! But the one thing government IS SUPPOSED TO DO is law and order.
Richard Nixon rode it to the presidency. Rudy Giuliani got 8 years as a Republican mayor of a completely Democratic city because he stood for law and order. Netanyahu, in Israel, has been Prime Minister forever (it seems) and completely destroyed the left in government, because he stands for public safety while the left sympathizes with the Islamic terrorists.
Trump needs to get in front of this, and the time is now. (He'll lose the election if he appears impotent in the face of chaos.) Here's my proposal:
1. He needs to make a national speech committing the full resources of the federal government to law and order wherever it is challenged.
2. He needs to declare the Corona Virus lock down over, from coast to coast. It has clearly contributed to the frustration we're seeing exploding in streets. And no one is taking it seriously anymore, anyhow.
3. He needs to federalize the National Guard and send it to wherever rioting is happening.
4. He needs to promise that anyone looting, rioting or destroying property will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. If the local authorities won't do it, it will be done at the federal level (yes, there are several ways of doing this.)
5. He needs to promise that he will veto any federal aid to rebuild what is destroyed by the rioters. This is important. The Democrats are going to want to federalize the damage by having the red states, in effect, pay for the blue state rioting. Everyone, especially the blue state Democrats, needs to know, up front, that they're paying for the damage they allow.
6. The Justice Department needs to investigate the networks that are organizing and coordinating this rioting behind the scenes. This didn't all just pop out of nowhere. I smell a rat. And if they look into it, they'll find one.
7. A full pardon for the rioters who attacked CNN headquarters.
Everyone sympathizes with George Floyd. Virtually no one, outside the professional left, sympathizes with the looters and rioters. This is being done to change the trajectory of the election. Trump can turn the narrative around completely, and change the course of American history, if he acts NOW.
